I have personally tried the Atkins diet. It works very well for losing weight quickly. The pro's were rapid weight loss, I didn't have my cholesterol checked during the diet but have read that it actually drops because of your body using fat for energy. The Cons are If you like bread like I do its tough thinking about going for a long period of time without it. I like bread with meals or a sandwich, I also noticed after the diet I craved carbs a lot sweets and the stuff I went without during. I've tried the grapefruit juice diet which is basically the atkins diet with grapefruit juice unsweetened of course. It works well for rapid weight loss I read where its said you can lose 52lbs in 2 1/2 months with the addition of white grapefruit juice. Haven't put that much time into it but seems possible.
